The Gift of Birds

Growing up, I remember the days of sitting outside on my grandma’s swing discussing the birds. She provided a beautiful garden of wildflowers and had many feeders and plants that would attract the birds and butterflies. From the cardinals to the hummingbirds, she had the birds covered. Over time, she got me my first bird feeder and gave me copies of her Birds and Bloom magazine. It became the times that I could sit down and transition into a simpler part of my life to watch amazing creatures during small moments of their day. During the winter weather the birds became very active at the feeder and were quite fun to watch. She would call me during times of snow to ask me about my birds. Now when I see the birds, I reflect back to her and what an amazing person she was. She taught me the love of flowers, the love of plants, the love of butterflies, and certainly the love of birds.
I decided this year I wanted to see the birds again and for Christmas I got a new bird feeder. Then, in order to watch the birds better, my hubby installed a security camera in front of it. Now when birds land on it, it will send me an alert. It is amazing to see who is landing there to eat. I can switch out the feeder as I need to include placing a hummingbird feeder there as summer approaches to give close up views of them as well. I hope everyone can take time to watch the birds in their yard and get to know their friends that spend so much time around them. See them, hear their song, and let them bring some joy. Enjoy the gift of birds.
